Nearly two years ago, before I moved back into gainful employment, I was working on building a personal brand for freelance and contract work. Like many one-man-bands, feeling that it would lend a greater air of legitimacy to me, I fell into the trap of making out that I was bigger than I was (I was a ‘boutique’ agency, and I used the royal ‘we’ a lot in the promotional copy). Whilst there wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with this (plenty of ‘boutique’ agencies do it!) it did feel a little disingenuous.
Fast forward to January 2017, and I miss being able to showcase the work that I have been lucky enough to contribute to over the past decade-plus. So, I figured it was time to work on my personal brand - not in an effort to illicit work (I’m perfectly happy in my current full-time role) - but to share the fruits of my professional life thus far.
This time, I’m not a small ‘multi-discipline agency’, and my posts will hopefully have a lot more personal insight into the work. I’ll also use it as an opportunity to highlight some of my personal side-projects that I hope to work on this year.
So if you want to see some pretty pictures of things that I have made, go give @madebytheprivateer a follow (I’ll be sure to post something about what I chose that name) #portfolio #design #webdevelopment #madebytheprivateer
