Took the new stand-up paddle board out for a spin. Did not stand up.

Water was looking particularly good this morning when I was out on my ride so came back down with the family for a little beach time. Water was getting a bit choppy for a novice like me to keep their balance so opted to kneel/kayak on the board instead. Still great fun though.

Turns out there’s a network of gnarly dirt tracks in the scrubland near my house - perfect for finally trying out the 29er with the clip-in pedals I bought back in October.

Of course, at the first technical descent I forgot I was clipped-in and superman’d in slo-mo into a nearby bush. Few scrapes and scratches, and a bit of an achy shoulder (we’ll see tomorrow if it feels any worse) but otherwise all good - certainly didn’t stop me from finishing off my ride!

As far as the clip-ins go, I can definitely see why these @shimanomtb Deore XT pedals cost 3x that of the basic egg-beaters I’ve used previously - absolutely top-notch riding experience (when I remember I’m clipped-in 😜). Whoop whoop! New kit day! . Treated myself to a couple pieces of @pocsports kit in the Christmas/New Year sales - a nice lightweight jersey for summer cycling, and a new pair of bib shorts.

I really like POC’s products - amazed it’s taken me this long to get some (apart from my full-finger mountain biking gloves). Orange is definitely my colour of 2019!

Still need to take it for a spin but already super impressed by the quality and fit - might have to pick up some more in a month or so. Just a shame they don’t seem to sell the Tectal MTB helmet in orange any more!

Whilst the 5am start on a Saturday morning was not fun, it was great to get out to Bunyaville early this morning to beat the heat. . Could have happily stayed longer and rode further, but still easing back into my riding. . Managed to get in early and nab one of the $20 entries to the @in_2_adventure Sunshine Coast MTB festival before they sold out. . I now have until the end of April to train for a 50km XC race around the Sunshine Coast Hinterland - hopefully this will be the first of many! (to be honest I just want to make sure I finish!)
