Taking some baseline measurements for the start of the year. . Whilst I probably won’t be back on the bike for another week or so while my body heals up I don’t want to use that as an excuse to not start pursuing some semblance of a healthier lifestyle. Whilst I am by no means obese, I have pretty respectable dad-bod happening and could definitely benefit from a bit of weight loss (even if it just means having to carry less up the hill when riding the bike). . Haven’t really got much of a plan at the moment, other than riding the bikes more, I’m hoping that by laying it all out there for all to see it will make me a bit more accountable when I get started in earnest. . Whilst I doubt I’ll be jumping on the scales every day, I’ll be using my old @withings scale to keep track of my overall body composition throughout the year. So here it is, the Week One weigh-in: . Weight: 90.1kg Fat: 22.7% Muscle: 66.3kg BMI: 27.5 (for reference I am 181cm tall) . Will post a monthly update and hopefully start seeing some of those figures changing in the right direction. . #day4 #weightloss #healthylifestyle #fitness #health #progress #withingsscale #withingscommunity

Over the last couple of months I really got into tracking my activity using my Apple Watch - especially since I was limited with the amount of exercise I could do (basically, just walking the dogs). I’ve got to admit, after a while ‘closing my rings’ became something of an obsession - Apple has got this gamification thing down pat!

Happy to end out the year with my first perfect month - let’s see if I can keep it up in 2019!

Whilst my profile states that I am a cyclist, in all honesty and can count on two hands the total number of times I’ve been out on two wheels in 2017. Usual excuses for not getting out on the road/trails - time, work, kids - but let’s face it, they just don’t cut it.

With less than 11 months until I hit 40, I need to work on getting a regular and sustainable exercise regime going - if not for my health then for my sanity!

Last night’s storms across Brisbane left the air nice and fresh this morning, so I figured no time like the present.

The trails were beautifully quiet out at Bunyaville State Forest this morning - which is just as well as it meant that there was nobody around to witness my physical shortcomings. Man, am I out of shape! Multiple stops to catch my breath, and at least one dry wretch. Still, it gives a good benchmark for improvement over the coming months, and it was still hella fun!

Bit of nostalgia - broke out one of the team jerseys from 2012 when a group of us cycled the length of mainland Britain (Land’s End to John O’Groats - 1,600km) to raise money for @cr_uk.

Great memories of a time when I was considerably fitter (I could easily smash out 120km on a Sunday afternoon to blow away a hangover), and by the fit of the jersey, considerably slimmer!

Easily one of the toughest, most memorable and most rewarding physical challenges I’ve undertaken - would love to do something similar again.

Thinking about that time in my life, it has increased my resolve to regain that level of fitness - albeit with less drinking (I’m more of a two-pot screamer these days, and don’t handle my hangovers very well!). #cycling #cyclist #cyclistlife #lejog #longdistance #charity #fundraising #cancerresearchuk #maninlycra #nostalgia #fitness #fitfor2017 #lycraselfie

Winter is waning and I've finally got some @thuleaustralia racks and bike carrier fitted - now there's no excuse not to get back on the bike(s)! #cycling #roadbike #mtb #singletrack #fitness #roofrack #thule #wingedge #proride #i30
