Through a combination of the Instagram algorithm and Gmail’s spam settings I missed the fact that it was the @cycleofgiving today, so decided to do another self-directed 💯km ride this morning. . . Four laps of the @translinkqld Redcliffe Peninsula Line cycleway - a great rolling surface and more than a few hills means it was far from monotonous. Definitely adding this as a regular fixture to my riding. Century Sunday 💯 . . Banked my first 100+ km ride of 2019 this morning - actually my first since the Noosa Classic last August. . . Bit of a last minute decision - wanted to see how I’d fare over a longer distance with the last two months of training under my belt. Really happy with my performance - especially over the last quarter. Even though my legs were definitely feeling fatigued I somehow managed to ride faster and stronger than ever 🤷🏻‍♂️ . . My only regret - finishing my ride at about 9am, it’s far too early to crack open a cold beer (it is, right?). Had to make do with a coffee instead. . . After bordering on six years of active service, it’s time to retire my first ever set of road cycling shoes. Picked up these @maviccycling shoes from an independent bike shop back in Edinburgh (can’t remember the name) - had just bought my first road bike, complete with a set of SPD-SL pedals and didn’t have a clue (tbh I mainly liked the yellow flashes on these!). I totally lucked out with my choice. They have served me well over the years but there’s only so many times you can glue the sole back on! After almost two months of no riding for medical reasons, I caved and took the 29er out for a gentle spin this morning. No more cycling until the New Year 😫

After a recent third stay in hospital in as many months for recurrent pericarditis (this time being the worst yet) I have been officially banned from all exercise for the next couple of months whilst my new course of medication beds in. I had plenty of big plans for 2018 in terms of cycling and fitness in general, and they’ve all more or less fallen flat due to poor health.

Anyways, I’m going to take this time to properly rest and recover and plan something for 2019 - I’ve already got a few ideas floating around my head.
